The property’s story stretches back to the 1820s when Woodburn Farm was first granted to Gilbert Robertson, the Chief Constable of the Coal River district. In the 1830s, land from the farm was donated for the construction of St John’s Catholic Church, now Australia’s oldest Catholic church. This deep connection to Tasmania’s early history can still be felt across the estate today.
Guests can choose from a variety of accommodation options, from romantic suites with spa baths and four-poster beds to family-friendly apartments with self-contained kitchens. Many rooms offer sweeping views of the orchards and farmland.
Facilities include free Wi-Fi, BBQ areas, laundry services, and an onsite fine-dining restaurant serving Tasmanian food and wine.
Beyond accommodation, Hatcher’s is a versatile venue for weddings, conferences, and special events. The grand function hall can host up to 400 guests, while smaller spaces are perfect for intimate gatherings, workshops, or exhibitions.
With its combination of historic setting, modern comfort, and genuine hospitality, Hatcher’s of Richmond is more than a place to stay. It is a gateway into Tasmania’s past and present, offering guests a memorable base to explore the Coal River Valley and beyond.
