Hobart Zoo & Aquarium

Just 30 minutes from Hobart, in the scenic Coal River Valley near Richmond, Hobart Zoo & Aquarium is Tasmania’s ultimate wildlife and family adventure. Under the vision of owner Stuart Webster and his dedicated team, the zoo is evolving into a world-class destination where animal welfare, education, and fun go hand in hand.
Koalas
Visitors can hand-feed kangaroos and wallabies, meet wombats, emus, and miniature Highland cows, and encounter Tasmanian devils, koalas, lions, and primates. The walk-in aviary offers bird feeding sessions daily at 10am and 1pm, while keeper talks and interactive experiences run throughout the day.
The zoo also features Tasmania’s largest public aquarium, an all-weather main building with a cosy café and open fireplaces, a retail shop, and one of the state’s biggest indoor adventure playgrounds. Outdoors, five new playgrounds and expansive picnic areas make it a full-day experience for families.
Accessibility is a key focus, with wheelchair-friendly paths, clear viewing areas, and even a safari-style accessible tour vehicle. Combined with ongoing sustainability initiatives and future developments, Hobart Zoo & Aquarium is becoming more than a zoo—it’s a place of wonder, connection, and discovery for all ages.
