Mapleton Vineyard

Mapleton Vineyard is a family-owned winery in the Tea Tree subregion of the Coal River Valley, managed by Paul Laing along with his parents, Denis and Kathryn. The vineyard spans three adjoining properties—Mapleton, Woodlands, and Lynwood—each with its own history and plantings. Paul purchased the original Mapleton property in 2004, drawn to its rolling north-facing slopes and rich dolomitic soils, though it wasn’t until 2014 that the first vines were planted.

The initial hectare of Pinot Noir soon expanded when the Laings acquired the neighbouring Woodlands property. Its neglected vines, dating back to 1992, were carefully restored, eventually producing quality Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and a small amount of Cabernet. Six months later, the family purchased Lynwood, where Denis and Kathryn now live. Lynwood’s 4 hectares, planted in 2003, include Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Riesling. With careful management, the vines were revitalised, and by 2018 they produced award-winning wines, including a Gold Medal Riesling that also won Best 2018 Vintage Wine at the Tasmanian Wine Show.
Today, Mapleton Vineyard nurtures around 12 hectares of vines, with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Riesling at the heart of production. The wines reflect the unique terroir of Tea Tree, combining elegance, clarity, and the vibrant cool-climate character that makes the Coal River Valley one of Tasmania’s most celebrated wine regions.
