Merriworth Wines

Merriworth Wines is a boutique, family-run vineyard in Tea Tree, on the western edge of Tasmania’s Coal River Valley. Established in 2001, the three-hectare vineyard is known for producing premium cool-climate Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Chardonnay. Its location on the north-east facing slopes provides long hours of morning sun, protection from wind, and cool nights that allow for slow ripening, resulting in wines of balance, complexity, and elegance.

The terroir is a defining feature of Merriworth. The site combines deep clay river flats with lighter dermasol soils over Jurassic dolerite rock, creating ideal conditions for vine health and nutrient balance. With a remarkable clonal diversity across its varieties, the vineyard consistently yields fruit of outstanding quality. Biodiversity in the vineyard is also encouraged, ensuring soil vitality and sustainable growing practices.

Winemaker and viticulturist Mark McNamara employs traditional, low-intervention methods in the winery. Red wines are aged patiently in French oak barriques and puncheons, allowing the natural expression of the site to shine through.
Visitors are invited to sample Merriworth’s latest releases at the vineyard, while learning first-hand about the unique terroir, clonal selection, and careful craftsmanship that define every bottle.
Merriworth Wines is not just a vineyard but a tribute to the land’s long history, from its use as a traditional hunting ground to its modern role as a producer of exceptional Tasmanian wines.
