Old Hobart Town Model Village in Richmond is Australia’s only historical model village and a fascinating glimpse into life in Hobart during the 1820s. Located just 20 minutes from Hobart, this award-winning attraction was painstakingly built over three years by Andrew and John Quick using original plans. Covering an area the size of two tennis courts, it features over 60 replica buildings, more than 500 figurines in period dress, and 100 myrtle bonsai trees, creating an immersive miniature of early colonial Hobart.
Visitors can stroll the streets of old Hobart, comparing the 19th-century township to modern-day Hobart with helpful maps and signage. Scenes range from convicts at work parties to daily life in pubs, markets, and homes, sparking the imagination of both adults and children. Young visitors especially enjoy the search challenge, looking for hidden scenes throughout the village.
Set in landscaped gardens, the model village also offers wheelchair-friendly access, translations in multiple languages, and a well-stocked souvenir shop.
