Pooseum
The Pooseum in Richmond, Tasmania, is a one-of-a-kind science museum dedicated to the fascinating world of animal droppings. Winner of the “Most Innovative Museum” award at the 2023 global Travel & Tourism Awards, the Pooseum takes an educational yet engaging approach to a topic that’s rarely explored in depth. With more than 50 information panels, 40 touchscreen videos, and a range of interactive displays, visitors can learn everything from the science of digestion to the surprising role of faeces in ecosystems.
Highlights include the Digestion Room, where you’ll discover how carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores process food differently, as well as the chance to compare droppings from animals across Australia and around the world. Adding a creative twist, the museum also features unique sculptures and artworks made from animal dung by both local and international artists
Before leaving, guests can stop by the cleverly named Pootrid Shop, which stocks educational books, quirky gifts, and other poo-themed products. Located in the historic village of Richmond, just 25 minutes from Hobart, the Pooseum is an experience unlike any other in Australia. Please note, the exhibition is best suited for adults and children aged eight and above with a keen interest in science.
