Pressing Matters

Crafting Cool Climate Excellence

Founded in 2002 by Greg and Michelle Melick, Pressing Matters was born from a passion for wine and a belief in the potential of the Coal River Valley. Inspired by the neighbouring Morningside Vineyard, the Melicks planted noble European varieties including Riesling, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet, producing their first vintage in 2006.

In 2019, Anthony and Kay Hall joined as partners, cementing a friendship built on a love of Burgundy and family time spent in Meursault. Together, the families have invested in expanding the vineyard with new plantings, a striking winery and a welcoming cellar door designed by John Skinner, the original architect of Morningside House. Their vision balances practicality with architectural beauty, creating a modern landmark in Tea Tree.
The vineyard sits on a rare band of limestone within the Coal River Valley, a feature that imparts finesse, minerality and structure to the wines. This cool-climate region is renowned for producing slow-ripening grapes of exceptional quality, contributing to about 13% of Tasmania’s wine production.
Pressing Matters specialises in Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Visitors are invited to the cellar door, open daily, to enjoy tastings, wines by the glass and a small plate menu surrounded by stunning vineyard views.
