Spirit Of The Coal Valley
Spirit of the Coal Valley is a boutique grain-to-glass distillery established in 2022, right in the heart of one of Tasmania’s best-known wine regions. Every part of the process happens on-site, from sourcing raw materials to fermenting, distilling, and bottling. With a handmade 125-litre still built by owner and distiller Chris, production is intentionally small, ensuring each batch of spirits receives the care and attention it deserves.
Each bottle is individually labelled with handwritten details, making every release unique. The current range includes vodka and liqueurs available for tastings and purchase, while stocks of dark spirits are quietly maturing for future release. Locality is at the centre of the distillery’s philosophy, with Tasmanian barley used wherever possible, water collected from the property’s own roof, and casks sourced from nearby.
Inspired by the history of Richmond and the convict-built heritage of the Coal River Valley, Spirit of the Coal Valley is all about authenticity and craftsmanship. Every sip reflects not only the quality of the ingredients but also the passion behind the process, offering a genuine taste of Tasmania in every glass.
